* "MISSING KEY"
May 2, 2000

Episode 98       Airdate: 04/28/00      Writers: Carlton Cuse and John Wirth     Director: Robert Mandel
Guest Stars: Michael Trucco, Jeannetta Arnette, Sydney Walsh, Laura Johnson, and George Hamilton.

Evan:Harvey, so ah, what'd she want?
Harvey:Oh, the long and the short of it, buddy, is that our one night together convinced her she's gay. Thanks for asking.

Nash and Joe meet the Chief of Police for golf. The Chief asks Nash to head a drug task force, but Nash refuses. Suddenly, a woman (Jennifer) asks for Joe, but she must flee because two men are after her. Before she escapes, she hides a key in Joe's golf bag. Jennifer is abducted and pulled into a car. Jennifer leaps out of the car, hitting her head on the pavement.

Jennifer Wilson dies of her injuries. In the abandoned car used in the abduction, a jacket is found belonging to Willis Verett. Verett is brought in and interrogated. Verett reveals that a Dr. McGowan, a plastic surgeon, hired Verett to kidnap Jennifer.

Meanwhile, Dr. McGowan goes to warn his patient, Raymond Peck, that the police are close. Peck has obtained the security video from the golf course showing Jennifer hiding a key in Joe's golf bag. Peck sends his goon, Gill, to terrorize Joe and get the key. Gill attacks Joe in his car and grabs Joe's golf bag. But the key has fallen out of Joe's bag into the trunk of Nash's 'Cuda, so Gill doesn't find the key.

The car that Peck drove to the golf course is identified and traced as belonging to an Anthony Marcello. Marcello was an accountant who worked for Louis Fallon, a mobster involved in boat insurance fraud. A friend of Jennifer Willis, Mary Burns, reveals the secret. Jennifer and Mary are recovery nurses for Dr. McGowan, who alters the faces of mobsters. Jennifer has stolen the before and after photos which reveal the true identities of mobsters in hiding.

Fallon stole Marcello's identity, then Fallon altered his face as Peck. Jennifer's stolen files are proof that Fallon is really Peck.

Dr. McGowan is found dead in his office, shot twice in the head. Gill terrorizes Joe further by planting a bomb in his exercise cycle, but Joe knows nothing about the key. Nash arrives and disarms the bomb. Nash and Joe find the key in the trunk of the 'Cuda. The key belongs to a 1948 Studebaker pick-up which Jennifer owned.

Meanwhile, Harvey has met Heidi through Evan. Harvey and Heidi spend the night together, but Heidi reveals she is gay. To replace his shot-up Ranchero, Harvey decides to buy Caitlin's electric car.

Nash confronts Peck, but Peck denies everything. The SIU and Gill discover a rental storage pier where Jennifer's '48 Studebaker is, with the stolen files inside. Nash goes to the pier alone and observes Gill emptying the storage garage. Gill escapes in a speed boat but not before blowing up the garage and pier. Joe is caught in the explosion, and Joe thinks Nash has been blown up.

A body is found, but it isn't Nash. Nash arrives in a cigarette boat along with Gill and Mrs. Peck in custody. Mrs. Peck and Gill are having an affair, and Nash threatens to tell her husband. Mrs. Peck reveals everything, that her husband is really Fallon, a mobster with a surgically altered face. Nash arrests Peck/Fallon.

Cassidy has been acting in a play. When the actor playing "Grandpa" quits, Nick fills in superbly at rehearsal. But during the performance, Nick's Alzheimer's disease hits. Nick goes completely blank, not even remembering that Cassidy is his grand daughter. Harvey arrives home in his newly bought electric Zebra. Heidi is waiting, wanting to see Harvey again.
