* "LADY KILLER"
April 11, 1998

Episode 50       Airdate: 04/10/98      Writer: Andrew Dettmann and Daniel Truly     Director: Jesus Trevino
Guest Stars: Russell Means, Charles Lucia, Andi Carnick, Julien Cesario, Billy Rieck, Caroline Lagerfelt, and Daniel Roebuck as Richard Bettina.

Rick:Nash, you're my best friend.
Nash:Your best friend?
Rick:Actually, my only friend.
Nash:Ah, well. Rick, look, really...
Rick:Nash, I know I'm an ass. I know I'm overbearing and OK, I'll admit for everyone, everyone can hear me, I only got this job because of nepotism. Fine! There, I said it. And I know what you think of me. And even if you don't like me, you know me, and that's gotta be worth something.
Nash:Ah, uh...
Rick:I don't understand what you're mumbling.
Nash:I was wondering why God chose me for this penance.

Rick Bettina shows up at Nash's apartment at 4:43 AM and begs for help. Nash calls Joe, and they all go to Rick's apartment where there is a dead woman in Rick's bed.

Dexter Birdsong of the Homicide Division is brought in. The victim is identified as Amanda Blake, a high-class prostitute. Nash and Joe visit the madam Vanessa Pierpoint, who reveals that Rick paid for the prostitute. Rick denies this, giving a different story of picking her up in a bar.

Meanwhile, Joe discovers that Inger suspects him of having an affair because of the nature of the credit card bills Joe has been getting. Bills for lingerie, chocolates and flowers fuel Inger's jealousy. Cassidy asks Evan to fill in on her double date. Harvey holds Evan to their agreement that Evan remain celibate for one month.

Joe and Evan discover Rick's sexual compulsive support group. Nash and Joe confront Rick in jail. Rick confesses to lying and being a sexual addict, but not to murder. Nash realizes that Rick is being framed for murder. Rick recalls a name from his past - a Griffin Trent, casino owner who tried to bribe Rick when he was a skip tracer with 10,000 dollars to release his son. Trent's son was sentenced to prison for five years.

While being transported to prison, a fight breaks out and Rick manages to escape. Joe confronts the thief who is using his identity and credit card in a penthouse suite. Joe is so angry that he tries to throw the imposter off the roof, but Evan brings Joe back to his senses.

Further checking reveals that Trent's son was murdered in prison. Birdsong still refuses to help clear Rick. Nash sends Harvey on surveillance at Trent's house to await Rick possibly showing up.

Evan's date with Cassidy ends early, but not before they share a passionate kiss. Trent's police file reveals a connection to Birdsong. Birdsong knocks Harvey unconscious inside the surveillance van, as Rick shows up. Rick pulls a gun on Trent, but is stopped by Birdsong who intends to kill them both. Birdsong is a compulsive gambler who owes money to Trent's casino. Nash and company show up and arrest Birdsong. A grateful Rick is indebted to Nash and hugs Nash. Joe woos Inger once again in a romantic penthouse suite, while Nash ends up dining alone.
