Rick Bettina Ay, so that means we find this scrod. That's
to the Unit: overtime for everybody and you remember who got
it for you when you're buying your wives those
facelifts they so richly deserve and need.

A mad bomber known as Alpha threatens to kill the Mayor. Nash is left in charge because Lt. Shimamura is on vacation in Hawaii. Fellow cop Rick Bettina, who competes with Nash, insists on carrying on a parallel investigation.

Alpha has penetrated every aspect of Mayor Bobby Werksman's life from her office washroom to her computer leaving Biblical-based threats everywhere. The Mayor orders Police Chief Raines to assign Nash and his team as her personal bodyguards. Private eye Joe Dominguez is also hired to protect the Mayor. This leaves Rick Bettina free to investigate, and Bettina comes up with a wrong suspect.

Meanwhile, Nash's father Nick is thrown out of a nursing home because of Nash's hot-tempered sister's (Stacy) comments. Nick suffers from Alzheimer's disease, and Nash and Stacy share the responsibility of taking care of their father. Nick must stay with Nash for a few days, so Nash enlists the help of his first ex-wife Lisa and daughter Cassidy. Later, Nick wanders off, but Nash finds his dad much to the relief of Stacy.

At a chess tournament campaign appearance, Nash sends the Mayor away and defuses one of Alpha's bombs. Thanks to techno-whiz Harvey Leek, Alpha's voice is deciphered as female, which leads Nash and Joe to Alpha, one Sara Wayne Nations. Nash and Joe corner Nations at her hideout, but she gets away. At Mayor Werksman's re-election press conference, Nations gets through the police net and holds the Mayor hostage. Nash intercepts and defuses the bomb, leaving Nations no alternative but to leap off the hotel roof in suicide.
